It is a lot of fun to dive into the inner machinations of the creating a story, plot, characters and all that comes with writing a novel. But as with all creative endeavours, unless you’re Banksy and are happy plastering your art on a public street wall, you’re most likely looking to sell your novel, either to a publisher or directly to the market as a self-published author.

And if you are selling anything, you need to know what thrives and dies in the marketplace, otherwise good luck selling ice in Iceland!

So in this video, I ask two Literary Agents – experts whose job it is to have a solid understanding as to the temperature of the water in terms of what publishers will and won’t buy – what genres I should should expect would do well this year and next. But their advice in this matter is tempered with a warning that – while their opinions are based on years of experience – they are but speculation. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s don’t be surprised if Cthulu rises from the depths because anything can happen.

But here’s to hoping Cthulu stays put for another thousand years at least…
