Season 2 of “A Discovery Of Witches” is set in 1590 Elizabethan England, and since I already loved season 1, I just had to review the costumes! This unique show, and the books that it’s based on, include everything you could want in historical fantasy : Vampires, witches, demons, romance, political intrigue, and time travel– and both the writer and main character are historians! So are the late Renaissance costumes historically accurate, and does it even matter if they are? I watched all of Season 2 and compared the costuming to 1590s portraits and extant garments to find out. There were all kinds of surprising little details that set this show apart, including embroidery, headwear, and the show’s handling of corsetry, and just like Season 1 it was a delight to watch.
