In this video I review Educated by Tara Westover. Please forgive me immediately getting the context wrong about Ohio/Idaho haha, not sure where that slip came from!

Books mentioned:

– The Liars’ Club by Mary Karr
– The Art of Memoir by Mary Karr
– The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls

Articles/scholarship mentioned:

Some context for Kathlyn Conway’s ruminations on the cultural construct of triumph and its essence in memoir. I had access to the whole document through my university’s databases, but the abstract might help at least a bit if you’re curious!

Thanks for watching! : )

I feel you about the instantaneous way Tara gets on in her academic career. At times I wanted her to discuss more about her writings and papers – why did professors think it was the best they'd ever seen? What made her so great? Considering her lack of an education in her early years, I would have liked to learn more about what made her papers so special.

Jasmine's Reads says:

I think I might try this at some point if I’m in the mood for a memoir. But I’m not sure I’ll like it as much as The Glass Castle hmmm. Maybe there are better memoirs out there for me to try? We will see haha! This was a great review Alex😊

Snow White Reader says:

I’ve been seeing this book everywhere so it’s good to hear your thoughts! 💜

Jo Smith says:

I’m not going to watch this now Alex as I have this on hold on the library but will be back to watch it when I finally get to read it and see if we agree!
