Embedded in a culture of secrecy and revealing covert operations and questionable morality, the genre looks at those men and women whose work is based on lies, secrecy, and sometimes even murder. Paul Vidich (An Honorable Man; The Good Assassin) and Joseph Kanon (Defectors; The Good German) explored this distinctive branch of crime fiction, its trademarks, place in history, and interplay between fact and fiction.
