Yukino Aguria XD says:

I really enjoyed The Thief – first book in the Queen's Thief series – by Megan Whalen Turner.

Nevvie says:

Robin Hobb writes amazing male characters, from the perspective of a boy, a young adult and finally, an adult (Farseer).

ThePurpleBookWyrm says:

Anne McCaffrey and Ursula K. LeGuin immediately come to mind, though for LeGuin I guess her adult work is technically 98% science-fiction and not fantasy (though it does say SFF in your title!). 😉 There's also MZ Bradley's excellent Avalon series (the best one though is The Mists of Avalon, which works just fine on its own).

Simply Bookdreams says:

I dislike Delilah so much

Muticere says:

Jacqueline Carey is my favorite fantasy author and she wrote my favorite fantasy series of all time, Kushiel's Legacy (Kushiel's Dart being the first book, arguably the best, also female led so it fits in well with the theme). I think you've mentioned in the past that you don't care much for books with sexual content, but it really is a great read if you care to check it out, though no doubt you already have a ginormous stack of fan recommendations already 😁

Benjamin Brewer says:

Elizabeth Moon could be on this list. She writes both sci-fi and fantasy. 1)My favorite is “Remnant population”. It’s a great sci fi stand alone and it’s unique because instead of the typical young beautiful protagonist, the hero is a grumpy grandma. 2)The deed of Paksanarion is a fun join the sword swinging army fantasy series. 3)Vattas war is a sci-fi Hornblower ish space opera.

Christopher Bacon says:

Elizabeth Bear who has books in the fantasy, science fiction and science fantasy genres. David weber is a man but the main character in his Honorverse series is female, Honor Harrington, first book is "At Basilisk Station". Male and female co-writers, Phil and Kaja Foglio of the "Girl Genius" webcomic, graphic novels and novelizations

BackAlleyTANGO says:

Susanna Clark and Katharine Kerr! <3

Random says:

Robin Hobb specifically chose this name when she started to publish her Realm of the Elderlings series. One of the reasons was that it would sell better but also because she was beginning something that was very different to the rest of her works. Those were published under the name of Megan Lindholm but her real name is Margaret Lindholm.

Helen Elmore says:

Another female adult fantasy author is Kristen Britain and her Green Rider series. I've never read it though.

Rori Rants says:

Ann Leckie. Ancillary Justice series.

Dan Lafferty says:

I haven't read any Robin Hobb yet, but I did pick up Assassin's Apprentice at a used book store last year and realized after I got home that it was autographed. Love when that happens.

William McPherson says:

I would like to add the Inheritance Trilogy by N.K. Jemison. Female author and female protagonist.

Nellie Barner says:

Thanks for this! You could also check out Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim, can't wait for the sequel this year 🥰

Dan Litrento says:

Seriously PLEASE FINISH The Farseer Trilogy I want to hear your thoughts and you will wish you read it sooner then after that read the first book of the Tawny Man Trilogy
It's SO Damn good

Tati says:

love this so much, thank you!
